Campus placement · communication round

Communication assessment practice for campus placementWhat the English communication round contains at each company, as prep sites report it — and a 9-minute test that practises the parts Scoryee can score.

  • 8 speaking tasks
  • About 9 minutes
  • 2 read-aloud + 3 repeat tasks
  • Four skill scores

The communication assessment is the spoken English round in the campus hiring of several IT-services companies — Cognizant, Accenture and Tech Mahindra among them — in which, as prep sites describe it, candidates speak into a microphone against the clock: reading sentences aloud, repeating sentences they hear, answering short questions and speaking on a topic.

No company named on this page publishes a cut-off score, and most of what is known about each round comes from prep sites and candidates, so this page names the source of every claim and shows where the sources disagree.

Scoryee's 9-minute speaking test practises the read-aloud, repeat-sentence and open-speaking parts and scores pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary and grammar — but has no short-answer, sentence-build or story-retelling task, and predicts no company's score.

What the communication assessment is

The communication assessment is a short spoken English test inside the hiring process of several IT-services companies, taken online with a microphone and, at some companies, a webcam. Prep sites describe most versions in one of two layouts, and some companies' rounds as eliminating candidates outright.

The first layout is Pearson's Versant English Test: 63 items in six parts — reading aloud, repeating, short-answer questions, sentence builds, story retelling and open questions — in 15 to 17 minutes, reported as four sub-scores (sentence mastery, vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation) on a 20–80 scale that Pearson now also gives as 10–90. Reading aloud and repeating are 24 of its 63 items, or 38%. Prep sites describe Cognizant's and Accenture's rounds in this layout.

The second is SHL's SVAR: reading aloud, listening and repeating, listening questions, grammar items and a short free-speech answer, in about 16 to 20 minutes, on a 0–900 scale according to FACE Prep. Candidates report SVAR for Capgemini in 2024 and for some Wipro hiring.

Some companies use the same words for a written test. LTIMindtree's “Spoken English (Grammar)” section and Capgemini's English test for the 2027 batch are both described as written questions on grammar and vocabulary, so which kind of round a candidate faces depends on the company, the year and the role.

The communication round at each company, as prep sites report it

What follows is what prep sites and candidates had reported as of 5 October 2026. Read every entry as a report, not a rule: the source is named under each company, patterns change between batches — Capgemini's did in late September 2026 — and no company named here publishes an official cut-off.

Cognizant (GenC, GenC Next, GenC Pro)

Prep sites report Cognizant's communication assessment as a 60-item spoken round in the Versant English Test's layout that eliminates candidates.

What is reported

  • Reading sentences aloud 8, repeating sentences 16, jumbled sentences 10, questions and answers 24, and story telling 2 (from a prompt or pictures): 60 items in 58 minutes, in the Mettl secure browser with a webcam and an audio check first — placementpreparation.io.
  • Scored on fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary and sentence mastery, the Versant English Test's four sub-scores — placementpreparation.io and PrepInsta.
  • An elimination round, per placementpreparation.io; PrepInsta calls it a qualifying round.

Where sources disagree

PrepInsta describes 60 questions in 60 minutes in three parts — reading, grammar and comprehension, speaking and listening — and a practice-test vendor, VersantPro, describes a 40-question, 35-minute version that includes writing an email. Cognizant does not say which engine runs the round; the link to Versant is an inference from the layout.

Accenture

Prep sites describe Accenture's communication assessment with the same six kinds of task — reading, listening or repeating, short answers, jumbled sentences, story retelling and an opinion — but disagree on its length, on whether reading and listening are spoken or multiple choice, and on whether it eliminates.

What is reported

  • Six sections, 63 questions: reading 8, listening and repeating 16, questions and answers 24, jumbled sentences 10, story retelling 3 (30 seconds each) and opinions 2 (60 seconds each), with a 20–30-second window per answer and no second attempt — FACE Prep.
  • Accenture's own platform, neither SVAR nor Versant, placed first, before the cognitive test — FACE Prep.
  • Evaluated on sentence mastery, vocabulary, fluency and pronunciation — placementpreparation.io and PrepInsta.

Where sources disagree

placementpreparation.io describes 20 mixed questions in 20 minutes, with reading and listening as multiple choice, and PrepInsta “20–25 questions” in 30 minutes; both say the round does not eliminate, where FACE Prep calls it the first gate. One low-view video describes a version that adds email writing.

Capgemini

Capgemini's English round is the least settled: reports describe a spoken SVAR round in 2024, a 30-question written test for the 2027 batch, and a change of pattern in late September 2026.

What is reported

  • 2024 (the 2025 batch): an SVAR communication round, from a candidate's recording dated 26 September 2024.
  • 2027 batch: an “English Communication Test” of 30 multiple-choice questions in 30 minutes — grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and sentence arrangement — with a 65% minimum, in a process where every round eliminates — placementpreparation.io.
  • On 27 September 2026 the placement channel OnlineStudy4u posted that the pattern had “suddenly changed”. Its free Capgemini practice portal has 28 items in 60 minutes: grammar and correction, situational questions, reading, listening, two spoken answers and business writing.

Where sources disagree

The three reports describe three different tests, and whether the current round is spoken, written or both is not confirmed. A guide written before late September 2026 may describe the old pattern.

Cut-off
65% on the written English test, per placementpreparation.io. None reported for a spoken round.

Tech Mahindra

Prep sites report Tech Mahindra's communication assessment as an AI-scored round of 20 to 30 minutes, taken with a webcam and microphone, that eliminates candidates.

What is reported

  • Listening and repeating, reading passages aloud, fill-in-the-blanks and error identification, listening to a paragraph and answering questions, and a topic narration of about 45 seconds — placementpreparation.io.
  • Which vendor runs the round is not confirmed; FACE Prep lists Tech Mahindra BPS among the users of SHL's SVAR.

Wipro

Reports on Wipro split by track: placementpreparation.io lists the WILP test as written only, while candidates report an SVAR spoken round in some Wipro hiring.

What is reported

  • WILP: an essay of about 20 minutes and no spoken round — placementpreparation.io.
  • SVAR in some hiring: a December 2024 video description gives one 42-item SVAR version for Capgemini and Wipro (counted in the table below), and The Humble Coder posts videos titled “Wipro WILP SVAR Assessment Questions”.
  • SVAR's sections, per FACE Prep: reading aloud, listening and repeating, listening deductions, grammar, error identification and an open answer of 30–45 seconds, in 16–20 minutes, on a 0–900 scale.

Where sources disagree

placementpreparation.io says WILP has no spoken round, while a placement channel's video titles describe a WILP SVAR assessment.

LTIMindtree

LTIMindtree's “Spoken English” section is described by placementpreparation.io as a written grammar test of 20 questions in 20 minutes, though some coaching prepares candidates to speak.

What is reported

  • “Spoken English (Grammar)” on the WeCP platform: 20 questions in 20 minutes on tenses, articles, prepositions, agreement, sentence correction, error identification, vocabulary and pronunciation — placementpreparation.io.

Where sources disagree

A coaching channel's “communication assessment masterclass” (Hiring Guru, September 2025) trains candidates against pauses and fumbles in speech, which suggests spoken items in some drives.

Deloitte (USI)

Deloitte USI's client-facing and BPO-track freshers take a Versant test, according to FACE Prep, which also lists SVAR among Deloitte's tests.

What is reported

  • The Versant test's six task types in 15–20 minutes — FACE Prep.

BPO and Versant tests

BPO and customer-service hiring uses several different Versant tests from Pearson, so the version named in an invitation matters more than the brand.

What is reported

  • Versant English Test: the six-part layout counted in the table below, 15–17 minutes — Pearson's validation report. Pearson's official practice test costs ₹1,100 and has the same questions on every purchase.
  • Versant by Pearson English Speaking & Listening (2024): about 37 items in about 20 minutes — short answers, repeats, conversation and passage questions, retelling and opinions — Pearson's validation report.
  • Amazon's customer-service hiring uses a 25-minute written Versant test, according to Amazon's official candidate instructions; a spoken one is also reported. Pearson names Concentrix among Versant's customers.
  • An invitation that says “EPT” most likely means Pearson's Versant English Placement Test: 9 tasks, 81 items, about 50 minutes — Pearson's validation summary.

Reported with no spoken round

TCS NQT, Infosys (an essay) and HCLTech's fresher test list only written English sections, according to placementpreparation.io. For those drives, practise the written section: a speaking test will not prepare you for it.

Not sure which version your invitation means?

Many candidates are not told the format in advance, and a guide written for an earlier batch can describe a pattern that has since changed. These checks narrow it down:

  1. Look for a test name in the invitation email, the test link or the on-screen instructions. “Versant” points to Pearson's layout, “SVAR” or “AMCAT” to SHL's, and “EPT” most likely to Pearson's placement test.
  2. Read the section names. Reading, repeats, short answers, sentence builds and story retelling are the Versant-style parts; read and speak, listen and speak, listening questions and free speech are SVAR's.
  3. Check the date on any guide or video. Capgemini's pattern changed in late September 2026, and Accenture's round is described three different ways.
  4. Ask your placement cell, or seniors from the last drive at the same company, what the screen asked them to do.
  5. If you still cannot tell, practise what the spoken versions share — reading a sentence aloud clearly, repeating a sentence exactly after hearing it, and speaking for up to a minute on a topic without long pauses — and revise grammar for the written ones.

What Scoryee's speaking test covers, and what it does not

Scoryee's level test shares three task types with the communication round — reading a sentence aloud, repeating a sentence and answering in your own words — and none of the others. Scoryee's test is a general speaking test, not a copy of any company's round.

Versant English Test counts: Pearson's validation report. SVAR counts: one candidate's December 2024 video description of the version reported for Capgemini and Wipro; FACE Prep puts SVAR at about 45 questions in 16–20 minutes. Company rounds differ from both — see each company above. Scoryee's column is read from the test itself.

What Scoryee reports

Scoryee reports four skills — pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary and grammar — three of which share their names with the sub-scores reported for the Versant-style rounds, where the fourth is sentence mastery. Each skill is placed on the CEFR scale (A1–C2), beside an overall level with the range around it. Scoryee does not convert its result to the 20–80, 10–90 or 0–900 scales the employers' tests are reported to use, so it cannot say whether you would pass.

What the test cannot tell you about the round

  • Whether you would clear a company's round: no company publishes a cut-off, and a Scoryee result is an estimate for practice, not a prediction.
  • How you would do on short-answer questions, sentence builds or story retelling — 37 of the Versant-style layout's 63 items — because Scoryee's test has none of them.
  • How you would do at the round's own length and pace: Scoryee's test has 2 read-aloud and 3 repeat-sentence tasks where the Versant-style layout has 8 and 16, and its time limits are its own.

Between tests, Scoryee's practice section scores read-aloud and repeat-sentence answers sound by sound — 10 spoken practice answers a week on the free plan, with no weekly count on the Pass — and has a grammar and vocabulary quiz with no limit.

A made-up sample, not a real person's result: a CEFR level with the range around it, a band for each of the four skills, and lines from the review that quote what was said. No company's score appears on it, because Scoryee does not estimate one.

Frequently asked questions

Is the communication assessment the same as the Versant test?

Not always. Prep sites describe Cognizant's and Accenture's rounds in the Versant English Test's layout, but neither company says which engine it uses, FACE Prep calls Accenture's platform its own, and rounds at Capgemini and in some Wipro hiring have been reported as SHL's SVAR. Read “Versant-style” as a description of the task types, not of the test you will sit.

Does Scoryee's test match my company's communication round?

No, and it is not meant to. Scoryee's 8-task level test shares three of the round's task types — reading aloud (2 tasks), repeating a sentence (3) and speaking in your own words (3) — and has no short-answer questions, sentence builds or story retelling. Scoryee shows where your speaking stands and which of four skills is weakest, before the round rather than instead of it.

What score do I need to pass the communication assessment?

No company named on this page publishes a cut-off. Figures circulate — placementpreparation.io, for one, reports a 65% minimum on Capgemini's written English test for the 2027 batch — but none is official. Scoryee does not convert its result to any company's scale, so it cannot say whether you would pass.

Is the communication assessment an elimination round?

It depends on the company and the source. Prep sites report the round as eliminating at Cognizant and Tech Mahindra, and every Capgemini round as eliminating; for Accenture they disagree — FACE Prep calls it the first gate, while placementpreparation.io and PrepInsta say it does not eliminate.

Is the Scoryee level test free?

Your first full test is free, with no card. The free plan also includes 10 spoken practice answers a week. Retakes and the full review of every answer come with the Scoryee Pass: one payment of US$9.90 for 30 days in most countries. The Pass also removes the weekly practice limit. It never renews, and you can get a refund within 14 days.

How much is the Scoryee Pass in India?

₹249 for 30 days, by UPI or card. It is one payment that never renews, and you can get a refund within 14 days. Your first test is free.

Do I need an account?

No. You can take the whole test as a visitor — no email, no password — and see your result before signing up for anything. A visitor's results live in that one browser, so make a free account afterwards to keep them; everything carries over.

What do I need to take the test?

A phone or a computer with a microphone, a quiet room, and an up-to-date browser such as Chrome or Safari. Browsers built into apps like LINE, Threads, Instagram or Facebook often block the microphone, so open the page in your phone's own browser first.

Will my accent lower my score?

It can cost a little on one skill. Pronunciation is scored by Microsoft Azure against US English, so a clear accent from elsewhere may lose points a human examiner would not take off. Fluency, vocabulary and grammar are not scored against an accent.

Practise the parts Scoryee can score

8 tasks in about 9 minutes: read aloud, repeat, and answer in your own words. Your first test is free, and you can take it without signing up.
